But before we get to the recipe, I hope you'll have time to chat a bit. Unlike many bloggers, I have not addressed the horrific event that occurred in Connecticut one week ago today. My heart goes out to all the family members, fellow classmates and teachers, first responders, and loved ones who are in such emotional pain right now. I have done a lot of crying and praying for them this past week. With that said, I'd like to share a link to a Jessica's post that offers details on different ways you can help out the family members of the Sandy Hook Elementary victims.
I'd like to bring a little holiday cheer to your day as an escape from the ugliness of our world and possibly to focus more on the light. We are days away from celebrating Christmas! What a wonderful reminder of Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy!
What have you and your loved ones been up to this month? Just this week alone, we've hosted two parties and attended a Cocoa, Coats, and Claus event our neighborhood puts on. My children got to tell Santa what they want for Christmas, donate last year's coats (that are like new given the warm winters we experience in Texas), and have fun celebrating with neighbors. All three parties were wonderful and helped me get back into the holiday spirit. Yesterday my middle two children had their holiday party at school where I always attend with princess in tow. We take pictures for the yearbook, and it's always fun seeing the excitement on the children's faces during the party. And this morning, I got to send off my middle boys in pajamas for Polar Express day at school!
While we are busy celebrating the many lovely and meaningful holidays in December, we often run out of time, so I want to share with you a quick, fun, and yummy treat for your family. While it's far from pretty or elegant, it's a great snack kids (especially boys) love: Reindeer Poop!
Every December, the week before Christmas, Santa visits Service First, which is where we get our oil changed. Last year, after getting our picture with Santa and playing on the indoor play structure and with the i-Pads, we headed to the snack bar where the owner's wife had made this chocolaty snack my kids just couldn't stop eating. When I asked about it, they told us the name, which made my nasty little boys love it even more. What do you expect from 6- to 10-year-old boys? If you have silly children in your house who want a {semi-} homemade holiday treat but you haven't much time, give this a try...
Reindeer Poop
Ingredients:
4 blocks of vanilla almond bark
8 cups of Cocoa Puff cereal (I used Kroger's Cocoa Crunchies)
Supplies: 8-cup measuring cup
wax paper
microwave
large spoon
Steps:
1. Slowly melt the almond bark in 30- second intervals, stirring in between. Once it is partially melted, stir and melt in 15-second intervals. Overheating this stuff will ruin it. If it starts to harden instead of soften, throw it out; you've overheated it. Hmm... wonder how I know this?2. Immediately pour in 8 cups of cereal. Of course, if you don't want this much poop, this recipe is easy to convert. You just need two cups of cereal for each block of almond bark.
3. Stir until evenly coated and pour a thick layer onto the wax paper. Allow to cool before breaking into smaller pieces. Store in an airtight container.

My oldest son is now in intermediate school. One of the activities they offered as a little fundraiser was to buy stuffed reindeer and have them delivered to your friend during school. My son received one, so I thought it would be funny if he took a bag of this reindeer poop to his friend and say, "Thanks for the reindeer. He keeps leaving trails of this in my house. I thought you'd like some." When I suggested this, my son just looked at me with a "why-are-moms-strange?" expression on his face. Well, I got a kick out of the joke, and my son sure enjoyed eating the poop.
I'll be sharing this post at some of these parties here.

Too cute! These would go really well with my Rice Krispie coal! Oh and maybe some tic tac snowman poop too? :) Oh and I think your gift idea is pretty funny! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I might try them tomorrow. I'm not a great cook but I think I can handle this. Maybe...
ReplyDeleteHa! Sure you can, and if so, I'd love to hear how they turn out. The hardest part is making sure you don't overheat the almond bark.
DeleteMy 8th grade son would LOVE to take poop. He'd love for me to make some for him too. Putting the ingredients on my list! Have a wonderful Christmas!
ReplyDeleteGreat recipe! Love the name ; ) Your kids are sooo darn cute.
ReplyDeleteSteph
Thanks, Stephanie! They are basically mini-clones of my hubby!
DeleteSounds like a perfect treat for boys (and girls, too!) I even know a dad that would think this is great just because of the name. Thanks so much for sharing on Busy Monday!
